FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Date: December 17, 2010 Time: 4:00 p.m.

This morning at about 5:49 a.m., State Troopers were dispatched to a fatal crash on Highway 115 approximately 13 miles north of Florence. Troopers have been able to determine that a 2001 Nissan Sentra was southbound on Highway 115 when it entered a right-hand curve and lost control. The Nissan entered the opposing lane of traffic and was struck by a northbound Ford F-250.

The driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver has been identified as Larry Jordan, age 56 from Colorado Springs. Mr. Jordan was employed by the Colorado Department of Corrections in Canon City.

The driver of the pickup was transported to a hospital in Canon City with minor to moderate injuries.

Alcohol is not considered to have been a factor in the crash. While the investigation is ongoing, the driver's speed relative to the conditions is believed to be the leading contributing factor. There was light to moderate snow at the time and the highway was icy and snow-packed.

Any questions regarding Mr. Jordan's employment are asked to be directed to Colorado Department of Corrections spokesperson, Katherine Sanguinetti at 719-226-4480.
